I read a very popular optimization blog recently and in it the words twitter, seo, and waste of time were all mentioned in the same sentence. I can speak from personal experience when I say that twitter is a very good tool if used appropriately and if that use is weighed accordingly. Aforementioned blogger was probably upset that @aplusk didn’t follow him back.

Always tweet your content considering humans and web crawlers and I’ll be seeing you soon in GOOG returns. Tweet randomly since if you just sit there and tweet, after the second or third one you’re tweets don’t attract the same attention. One every 1.0 hours seems good for indexing results.

1. Posts. Posts are ‘blog posts’. Use posts to create company news updates, publicize sales, highlight in-season services and the like.
2. Pages. Use pages to create the structure of your website. If you have a service you want in the main site navigation, or… the menu bar, create a page for it.
3. Store. If you can deliver products via mail, you’ll probably want store software. This software is an add on, some are free and some are pay to play. If you need a store click Plugins(#5) then click ‘add new’. Search for e-commerce or store.
4. Appearance. To tweak the looks of your web and to rearrange and/or add widgets click here.

Second, we take our 5 words to Google Sets and expand them to a “small set” of 15.

If you’re not happy with the words in the set, expand it to get ideas. Maybe substitute one or two of your original 5 to see what those results are.

Third, We do some creative writing on our subject making sure to weave those words into the final edit. The words google sets delivered are fairly well related to our post, except for “software”. But, we could easily refer to a kind of software just to tie the word in.

Like this; We use wordpress, a popular open source software CMS(content management system). The italics add a little extra weight to the word. Don’t go overboard, but, bold-en and italicize your important keywords.

WordPress makes it easy to add media like video and images with an assortment of web2.0 tools, widgets and plug-ins designed for Youtube, Flickr and other social media integration. First of all, you can see which pages of your site are indexed by google already by doing a custom search. Just like this, site:your-url.com. So if i were searching i would type, site:urlconsult.com, check it out: site:urlconsult.com

Getting cached by google is pretty easy, they are very efficient in gathering new pages. To rank well in a google search is another story and it takes a varying mixture of ingredients to ‘own’ a keyword phrase. It’s very possible to take mid sized markets in 3 – 6 months(or 3-6 days if you’re us:). And what i mean by ‘take’ is at least 3 returns on page 1 of a pointed query.

For those who’ve have had a website for years but it’s not up to par, you’re ok. Since your url’s have been around longer you have an advantage. A few keys to seo:
1.Add text to your website. Lots and lots of good old hand pounded text. If you sell 1000 different things you need to describe every one of them(better get typing). Any old text will not do. You need to focus your text to match your page(file) names.
2.File names are very important and should be considered at all times. Pages, pictures, audio… everything should be named with your keyword research in mind. As an addendum to file names, make sure all of your online files have meta data associated with them. Description, alternate description, caption… and be sure to link the image to something that it relates to. Make sure the link has it’s associated meta data as well. Lol.

3.Create a solid network. This helps in a multiplicity of ways such as linkbuilding, lead generation, and vision and mission proliferation.

I think Social Media Optimization should be incorporated into the Web Coordination category, but we humans love to specialize. Why does a business need the “perfect amount” of graceful online push? Do you have experience with an out of control viral business? If not, understand that too much too fast can hurt a company. You’ve seen the TV commercial where the cutsey couple launches a home business website, all starry eyed and full of hope. She hits enter to publish her page, and the sales feed starts spitting numbers at them, massive amounts of transactions they’ll never be able to fill in a timely manner. Yes, a dramatization, but it’s a reasonable one because it’s based on actual events. Business networking is about accurately promoting a ‘real’ product or service. One you can deliver in a timely manner, even if your sales triple then exponentially increase from the treble.

“But i want to make my business grow fast”

Well, one does this by promoting their company vision and mission along with the products and services they seamlessly deliver. Write a “gone viral” clause into your business plan but follow your plan. Adding sales applications to your website opens the door to uncertainty. What if your online marketing works and 10 people click and buy an item you stock 2 of? Legally, most locations have 30 days to deliver an item from time of sale. Let’s say the 8 items are custom and take 5 days each to make. Now you have to make about 3 customers unhappy, plus you paid a bunch for rush delivery to here and there. The three unhappy people are very vocal about your poor organizational skills, all over your social network. Lol. Now insert your products or services into that dramatization and find your scenario.

Shopping carts do have low stock safety measures built in, but you get the picture.

First we add depth to our facebook social web by creating service pages and community pages. We do this from the admin page. Then we add lots of business photos and optimize them with tags, proper file names, notes, links. Photo optimization is a key aspect since there are not hundreds of options when adding content to the facebook profile. Next, check out all the applications available… see if you can use any to your favor. If you add apps, make sure to change the title fields. Use a keyword phrase instead of ‘sociable app’. It’s also requisite to participate in the discussion boards if you want to generate traffic within fb. Adding helpful insight in a public forum, besides being fun, is usually +karma.

Facebook on it’s own is ok. But i suggest amping ‘find us on facebook’ by pointing a network at it, so people can actually find it. Develop @ Twitter, Amplify.com, Myspace, Hotfrog, Flickr, Bx.Businessweek, Blogger… point it all at your facebook. Keep your network active, at least a few logins per week, socialize. That’s a start.

Productions for Youtube(r) and Ustream(r) should be continuations of product placement type television advertizement. A great example of this is the Bluefly Wall on the Project Runway TV ‘reality’ show. One optimized extension of Bluefly Wall could be an image of the actual wall as it is on the show. Click on any accessory, go to the cart. For text in code geeks, Imagine the amount of textual info necessary to explain that image considering section 508. I think something such as this would create a bit of excitement within the viewer… get to see the wall up close and buy an accessory or 3.

- tv spot and internet ‘extended’ versions of those spots.

This avenue could eat all the startup funds so creativity is a must. It can cost 500 thousand dollars to produce a tv spot if you want it to. I think we could dig up equivalent talent and pay them generously @ 50 thousand for a years worth of video. It may cost 25-100 thousand dollars to get a good spot(not a top spot) on national air. We would also want to promote the youtube and ustream productions on those websites as well as social network promotions. That’s more money. I’ll cohese the finances more in a following post.

-Linkedin and bx.businessweek need little explaination. They’re respected. The sites are easy to navigate, they’re heavily weighted by web rank. +++

-Wakoopa, I wrote about wakoopa here: http://social-media-links.blogspot.com i think it’s highly benificial to anyone wanting visualizations of their net activity.

-Twitter, 2 accounts. Feed network updates automatically via hootsuite on one. Actual socialization on the other.

-Myspace and Facebook serve essentially the same functions. I find Myspace to be more useful than FB because i record audio and can then promote that via myspace music. Also, the Myspace blog can be a very powerful marketing tool and it will show up in google search results if you measure your activity properly. I see great results from 1 or 2 posts a week. Facebook is facebook and i wrote about business profile amplification in the forum.

-Flickr is pure image optimization perfection and the best image gallery by far on which to spend time. I hear they have an excellent social network there. Alas, i have no time.

-Blogger for copywriting and indexing considerations. You can’t lose if you put effort into a blogger account. And last but by no means least on this list… Typepad for copywriting and socialization.

A small business may become a medium sized or national one with solid CMO. Cross media optimization has become necessary if your company desires to maintain or improve upon ROI. First we consder the current commandments which very heavily rely upon TV. I think a more modern rewrite may be in order. The reason i call this cross media optimization(as oppised to marketing) is that once the network is built… it’s never done. It must constantly be manned, roboted, up to code and accessible. Twitter flutters about the #10 spot lately… over the whole internet. Where do people go to post what they’re doing, real time? Twitter. Where do people go to share what they’re reading, now? Twitter. Where do businesses go to post sales, jobs, … ?

With this comes a real information force in twitter search. Twitter finds themselves in the unique position of user driven information hub. Users post their information freely and with purpose. Google, Yahoo, MSN, and various other smaller indexing companies follow tweets very closely to acquire information for their own indexes. It’s smart to do.

This brings us to, of course, twitter search optimization. I believe this to mean: Tweeting in a way that will bring you to the top of twitter or topsy searches. If topsy is being promoted by twitter, they’re going to be big. Twitter is definitely facilitating topsy’s infograb.

Imagine if twitter made the links nofollow and stopped the other info companies from tracking the tweets. This coupled with facilitation of topsy business planning and boom. Topsy gets huge.

Things to think about:
List creation. List creation has many possibilities and i find good lists in searches often.
URL. Twitter has a neat little option in that one may change their url and keep everything else. As long as no one is using it, it’s fair game.

Search  trends are much more apparent within  twitter search. Take #nowplaying for example. I posted a #nowplaying and a minute later searched and found it to be on page 1 of “#nowplaying”. Then i waited a minute and i was on page 3, another min, page 6… This logic holds to an extent across twitter search with lesser searched terms staying on page one longer.

Well, we’ve had the means to create a semantic web since the internet’s inception. It’s called “meta data”. The problem is, some people are dishonest within the meta tags, hoping for better search return placement within unrelated queries. Thus, meta data is ‘discounted’ to a degree. There should be at least a page or two worth of information related to every meta tag.

Basically, keep your site w3 compliant and be honest in your design. Then we can have the semantic web pretty easily.

the permutation of Y y _y is very important for good indexing, or good design, etc…
how i’m using the term ‘permutation’ is more related to group theory than combinatorics, for the simple reason that a good program might want to ‘revisit’ information it has already considered once(but the best program would consider everything all at once in real time lol).

Y is the column under index, X is the column under world wide web.

Wikipedia goes on to say that self-organization requires a ‘macroscopic’ system, consisting of many nonlinearly interacting subsystems. Depending on the external control parameters (environment, energy-fluxes) self-organization takes place. My next question leads me to the term Negentropy. How does it relate to the information theory? The ‘natural order’ is pretty consistent if we are to believe history and Wikipedia. In large, we, the human collective, do move in groups and then further in a group, based on outer and even inner currents caused by many variables. Some variables larger than others but all have some effect on the whole even when experienced by a few. The mass movements are what interest me, those moments that have caused such immediate change it was undeniable and forever. What were these movements in our lifetime? I would say the invent of email, the advantage of affordable cell phone service and the home computer. Where will the next mass movement take us and what will cause it and how will you be involved?

Negentropy is always nonnegative, is invariant by any linear invertible change of coordinates, and vanishes if and only if the signal is Gaussian.

Negentropy is used in statistics and signal processing. It is related to network entropy, which is used in Independent Component Analysis. Negentropy can be understood intuitively as the information that can be saved when representing px in an efficient way; if px were a random variable (with Gaussian distribution) with the same mean and variance, would need the maximum length of data to be represented, even in the most efficient way. Since px is less random, then something about it is known beforehand, it contains less unknown information, and needs less length of data to be represented in an efficient way.
